Local Install vs. Local Network vs. Hosted

Candle has three primary ways that the software can be installed. See the details below.

Local Install

The Candle software can be installed on your laptop. This will allow you to access Candle, and you alone.

Pros:

- internet not required

- always available

Cons:

- only you can use the gradebook

- backups aren't handled for you

Network Install

The software can also be installed on a central school computer connected to your school's network.

Pros:

- internet not required

- multiple people can use the gradebook

Cons:

- teachers must be at school to access the software

- backups aren't handled for you

Hosted

Our recommended approach is to allow us to host the software on our servers. You choose a domain name and we host the software at the domain. (domain information can be found here) There is an additional hosting charge. This charge is in addition to the licensing fees. Pricing starts at $60/year for up to 5 data-entry users, $96/year for up to 10 users, and $144/year for up to 20 users.

Pros:

- accessible from anywhere and always available

- backups are handled automatically

- new features / updates can be quickly deployed

- traffic is encrypted

Cons:

- internet access is required
